Cannon zbrush redo

I re-sculpted the cannon after having difficulties importing the model from maya and zbrush. Wanted to give more damage to the hard surfaces of the mesh and leave lighter surface details on the wood to contrast the wood from the stone/metal.

Drew Struzan composition study

For this assignment, the class had to choose from one of the many posters to break down the composition of Drew Struzan. I chose to break down the layout of He-Man: Masters of the Universe, which was a fun challenge for me. The composition layout is cross for this piece. I did the layout with a rough sketch at first, then I solidified my line work in the second layer, and then I individual painted over each character using separate layers for each including the background. My blending technique has improved since my last photoshop illustration, however I still have along ways to go with improving my overall form and technique.

Here is my reference.

3D zbrush cannon sculpt

After finishing high rezing the model, I ran into problems importing into zbrush. However I manage to do a decent job adding details and character to the cannon along with detailing the wooden portions of it. Overall, I would say zbrush is my strong suite and Maya is an area I need to work in.

Frank Frazetta Value study

Value study using frank frazetta's line art. Focusing just on the values on this helped me not only enhanced my eye for values but also helped me improve on my digital painting photoshop skills. I first applied a color fill layer of grey and then followed up to hit the areas that needed shading and lighting with a standard brush preset. I used smudge very sparingly to blend values very sparingly.

3D model Cannon progress

Currently learning how to uv and unwrap 3d models in maya. This assignment was alot more time consuming then I originally though. However, I have learned a lot by doing this by doing this.

Syd mead study

Final render of a syd mead study I did. I'm relatively new to digital painting and this exercise revealed to me how much I need to catch up and relearn painting techniques over again. I used earth tones for values and broke down to shapes in simplified terms for this project. Spent quite a considerable amount of time redoing this project, however, since this was a simple exercise I decided at some point enough is enough and leave it as such.

Life Drawing

Quick sketches of our first life drawing class. Breaking down the bone structure of the male torso.

3D

Cannon done in Maya. First time doing box modeling to create a model. This was a very challenging assignment that was tasked for me. Made different iterations and still manage to have sloppy topology. From this point forward, I plan on improving my topology as well as my knowledge with Maya.
